Matrescence: the process of becoming a mother.

May. A month to support the Matrescence movement.

Maytresence; join our village and let’s stand alongside those already fighting for awareness, understanding and integration of Matrescence into mainstream society.

A month to raise money.

Across the month of May, we’re asking you to join together as a village and raise as much money as we can for 5 charities supporting mothers, birthing parents and those close to them during Matrescence.

Take on a challenge, hold an event or simply make a donation via our JustGiving page. Tag @maytrescence on Instagram and let’s show how united and determined the village is!

Sign up to our mailing list or follow us on Instagram to find out which amazing charities have been selected for 2026.

A month to make a change.

Integrating the word and concept of Matrescence into mainstream conversation won’t happen on it’s own and it’s not someone else’s job.

It’s everyone’s job, including you, including us.

We’ll share small changes that we can commit to as individuals and as a village during Maytrescence; new conversations and habits that can last a lifetime and benefit the generation of parents coming behind us.

A month to have a voice.

There are many ways that Matrescence should be embedded into modern society and it’s something we can’t and won’t only think about in May. But we have to start somewhere and we’d love your voice and support in our first Maytrescence.

Maytrescence is part of a bigger vision; to grow to a point where we can create the Maytrescence Foundation. We will support grassroots organisations, we will fight for systemic and long term integration of Matresence into every corner of society.

Maytrescence Founders

We’re two mums, tired of expectations setting us up to fail and determined to positively change the narrative of motherhood and parenthood.

Hannah Smith, mum of three. Senior Marketing Manager at Bugaboo and Founder and Director of The Reve Collective.

Rachael Jordan, mum of two. Former Marketing Director of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance and current Co-Founder and Director of The Parent Experience.
